Mrs. Canfield's ELA Workshop

Dear parents,

         It's that time again... BACK TO SCHOOL! I am so excited to be teaching your child's reading and English classes this year. I have always had a strong love for literature and writing. It is my hope that my passion for these subjects will spark your child's interest in reading & writing and give your student a renewed motivation to read & write. (Click here to meet me!)

        This year, I have planned numerous fun-filled adventures (lessons) to share with your student. In our 7th grade reading and English classes, we will continue to examine works of fiction and nonfiction through the use of our ever-expanding interpretation and analysis skills. Also, our classes will be filled with the application of writing and grammar skills. Students will combine these skills to create their own original stories, analyses, poetry, arguments, and projects pertaining to the module of study. In addition, we will continue our quest to cultivate our vocabulary. (Click here to view a detailed syllabus.) Yes, indeed, we do have an exciting nine weeks ahead of us!

          Although reading and writing appear to be self-involved subjects, students in this class will find it to be more social, because learning is social. However, for students to get the most out of their learning environment, the following rules & procedures must be followed.

     1. Bring your A.R. book to class.

     2. Ongoing homework: Read A.R. book every night for 20 minutes. Also, review notes and assigned vocabulary each night for 20 minutes.

   3. If students have been absent from my class for any reason, they can find make-up work on the websites, Moby Max and Common Lit. Make-up work is available mid-week. Students are to complete the assignments to receive grades for missed work. (Also, students should have their username and password; however, if they don't, they can get it from me.)

     4. Class Rules:

   *   Be on time - silent & seated with all necessary materials (before the bell rings).

   *   Make good choices.

   *   Be respectful.

   *   Keep your work area clean.

   *   Stay seated until the teacher dismisses you.

By following these rules, your child will experience a positive learning atmosphere.

       5. School supplies:

  * 1 composition notebook

  * 1 folder

  * Blue pens, black pens, or #2 pencils

  * 1 pair of earbuds/headphones
