Students will learn concepts and applications of the different branches of chemistry (matter, atomic structure, chemical bonding, moles, solutions, acids and bases, and carbon compounds).  Laboratory investigations are central to science; therefore students will be required to participate in labs and complete detailed lab reports.

An outline of the course is:

Unit 1: Measurements and Problem Solving

Unit 2: Matter

Unit 3: Atoms and the Periodic Table

Unit 4: Chemical Bonding and The Formation of Compounds

Unit 5: Moles, Reactions and Stoichiometry

Unit 6: States of Matter, Energy Changes, and LeChatelier’s Principle

Unit 7: Solutions and Acids and Bases

Unit 8: Carbon and Its Compounds
